Warhounds, an XCOM-style turn-based tactical game from industry veterans, is set to launch later this year!
Behind Warhounds is indie studio Everplay DMCC, founded by 20 industry veterans and fans of Jagged Alliance and XCOM. Accordingly, they are working on a similar title, which is currently still in playtesting until February 15, 2026. You can easily access it via the game’s Steam page. There you can request access and wait until you are approved.
The playtest covers a playing time of about 100 minutes and shows where the journey is headed. We’ve also had a chance to take a look at the game and are very impressed with the gameplay, which falls right between the genre giants mentioned at the beginning. That’s because Warhounds does away with the classic random principle, also known as RNG. Each bullet is simulated individually, and instead of abstract tiles, there are real cones of vision.
The title also wants to set itself apart from XCOM and Jagged Alliance in other ways. Instead of success being dependent on probabilities, the positioning of units, their line of fire, and tactical decisions should lead to victory. Overall, Warhounds aims to offer a more focused and structured experience. Instead of sandbox chaos, the missions are designed so that quick and important decisions can and must be made.
The release date for this tactical thriller is not yet known, other than that it is scheduled for this spring. We will definitely keep an eye on this title for you!
