Glintseeker Island is a mining adventure with RPG elements in a 2D pixel art style, now available for playtesting in Germany.
Assemble Entertainment, together with German studio Half Soup Labs, has announced the mining adventure Glintseeker Island. In this title, we search for ancient treasures and artifacts in procedurally generated cave systems modeled after the underground world of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl. We also have to prove ourselves against underground creatures and face bosses in the depths. A playtest is now available on Steam. The release is currently planned for 2027 on Steam.
The focus is, of course, on mining, where we can find new, valuable loot that we need for upgrades or to rebuild a village. This doesn’t happen with a simple click of the mouse; we first have to uncover the relevant resources with various tools, such as hammers. The deeper we go into the cave, the more different biomes we encounter. These differ not only visually, but also in terms of the enemies we encounter and the possible loot. There are a total of 12 hammers, each of which allows for a different style of play when digging and fighting.
When we leave the cave, we return to the village we mentioned earlier, which we can rebuild. There, we repair various buildings, help the villagers with their tasks, and learn more about the dark history of the island we are lurking on. Because in the cave, we find not only valuable ore, but also a long-buried past—including an ancient threat. The most important information comes at the very end, of course: the dog in the game, Shadow, can be petted!
